 How to Get the Deals
|
|
There are several ways to get free or discounted gifts, gaming, meals or shows.

Time Shares. Most major hotels either have - or are associated with - a Las Vegas Time Share affiliation. If you meet the requirements and sit through a two hour presentation, you are normally rewarded with coupons for discounted shows or meals, or given vouchers for gaming chips. If you have the time to spend in one of the talks, especially if you are interested in time share ownership, these are a great deal. Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. and
all of their hotel/casino properties are associated with the Wyndham Resorts (where our editor has 3-6 weeks a year world-wide).

Player Club Cards. All casinos offers their guests a card to track their time and winnings/loses for the slot machines. They are also used for tracking table games and in many cases, the poker rooms. Many casinos offer initial gifts for signing up for the card. These gifts range from t-shirts, coffee mugs and most often, free time or cash on the slot machines. Additional comps (compensation) are awarded for time spent gambling. Many gifts are
available, depending on the casino, from meals to cash.

Poker Freerolls. Many poker rooms offer Freeroll Tournaments for playing cash games on their tables. Freerolls can be held, weekly, monthly or quarterly, depending on the casino. These invitational tournaments can have prize pools from a few thousand dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Casinos are giving out comps like never before -- and not only to high-stakes
gamblers. You can get free rooms, hot concert tickets and much more, sometimes
just by asking. Jay David is hardly what you'd call a high roller. For the
Chicago consultant, the extent of his gambling is feeding $100 into a video
poker machine once a month at his local riverboat casino.
But on a recent trip to Las Vegas, David and his mother spent five nights at
two top hotels, feasted at several buffets and picked up two $125 silk Tommy
Bahama shirts, all without paying a penny. David's entire trip was on the
"house" -- the house being Harrah's Entertainment and MGM Mirage, the two
largest operators of casinos in the country.

The big news this week is
concert tours, as John Mayer launches his "Battle Studies" tour (with about 20

add cities to their schedules, including U2 in Montreal, Minneapolis and Detroit;
Mariah Carey in Atlantic City; and George Strait (with Reba McEntire) in
Greensboro. The full list of hot artists is below. One other thing to note is
the opening of "Billy Elliot" in Chicago, going on sale Friday. The show has
been huge in New York, so it should be a hot ticket.
