The Inside Scoop
BASIC ONLINE SWEEPSTAKES/ FREEROLL STRATEGY
During the opening levels of low-limit and sweepstakes tournaments, players keep their starting cards for much longer than probability, odds and poker sense says they should. When poker legend Doyle Brunson remarked, "If I had position on a player, I wouldn't even need to look at my cards," he did not have today's modern online players in mind. Today's online players play a much looser and more aggressive style of poker than their brick and mortar counter parts, with far less reliance on position. Typical online players do not rely on what other players are doing, so they are less vulnerable to what other players are holding.

THE RESURGENCE OF PLO
Though it seems that Texas Hold'em is the game of choice in poker these days, in the high stakes world at least, Pot-limit Omaha seems to be taking the poker world by storm. Not only did the biggest verified online bad beat occur in Pot-limit Omaha, the biggest online pots in history have all been in Pot-limit Omaha.

The World of High Stakes Online Poker
This month's Poker Digest covers the world of High Stakes Online Poker. Most of the articles cover the six-week rise and fall of online phenom Isuldur1, Isildur1 is purportedly 19 year old, Swedish hyper-aggressive player Viktor Blom (Blom90 on the Poker Network).
Talented and disciplined
For a time, as
Andrew Feldman has so capably recounted with his blogging, "Isildur1" seemed
like the unstoppable force. He turned $60,000 into more than $1.6 million faster
than you can bat an eye, then proceeded to take more than $5 million of Tom
Dwan's hard-won cash. The mystery man's name was the only one on the lips and
hearts of all poker players longing to be in the know. Now, as the world watches
his every hand, he's lost more than $8 million in the past month and is quickly
becoming the sad, iconic story that teaches us the dangers of wielding talent
without discipline.

Brian Hastings Makes Isildur1 Pay
"Isildur1" has had his hands full recently with all of the big guns online.
However, Tuesday night's session wasn't with Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Tom
Dwan or even Brian Townsend. Brian Hastings joined the flurry of high-stakes
action against "Isildur1" and wrapped up a 2,861-hand session with a cool $4.2
million. The sad thing is that "Isildur1" wasn't even having a bad day until his
encounter with Hastings. Playing against Brian Townsend and "Jungleman12,"
"Isildur1" was actually up more than $1 million. He peaked at over $2 million
once the match with Hastings began, and then it was all downhill from there. The
unknown online action junkie lost more than $3.4 million on Tuesday. Ouch.

Brian Hastings Wins $4M from Isildur1
Last night we saw one of the most unbelievable turnarounds in fortunes that
has ever been witnessed at the high stakes tables. It seemed to be another
massive day for Isildur1 , winning $471K from Jungleman12 at $100/$200 NLHE and
$722K from Brian Townsend at $500/$1000 PLO. He stayed well in the green all
throughout the period, even peaking as high as $2M, but things were about to
change.

Patrik Antonius and Isildur1 Continue to Battle
Last week, I
wrote about the fact that the largest pot in online poker history had just
taken place. At $878,958.50, Patrik Antonius defeated "Isildur1" to make history
and at the same time, become even richer. About the time I finished last week's
article, I said to myself that it might not last. Given the volatility of the
last few weeks in the high stakes realm, it was really no shock that the first
million-dollar pot would take place. Once again, Antonius defeated "Isildur1" --
but this time, the stakes were significantly higher as he raked in a pot of
$1,356,946.50.

Antonius Wins Largest Pot in Online Poker History
Although the WSOP main event has finally wrapped up, the news in the poker
industry has been anything but stale. After the announcement that Jeffrey
Pollack was stepping down as commissioner of the World Series of Poker,
attention turned to the online poker rooms for a number of reasons.

Isildur1 Takes on the Top Players
This weekend, we saw a new player wanting to see how he measured up against the best high stakes players online. His nick is ‘Isildur1’ and apparently he is playing out of Sweden. His style can only be described as hyper aggressive, but from the first results we have seen, it might seem that he is too aggressive. It is not easy to run over the opposition at these tables, so in a 24 hour period and almost 4000 (!) hands, he finds himself down $513K in total for his No-Limit sessions. However, on the 22nd of October he had a very good PLO $100/200 session where he won around $400K against Haseeb Qureshi.
